Renovation Metal

What metal comes from an electrical rewire or switchboard upgrade?

Short answer: A rewire produces a large amount of copper cable, usually insulated, while a switchboard upgrade produces the old board and its steel enclosure, circuit breakers and busbars, and the cable is the main value, but electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician and the old cable remains the owner's or electrician's to sell by agreement, so ask who keeps it before the work starts.

Cable is the prize

Old cable is mostly copper conductor with insulation, and a whole-house rewire produces a lot of it.

Switchboards

The steel enclosure and brass or copper parts are worth setting aside.

Agree who keeps it

The electrician may expect to keep the old cable, so settle this at the quote stage.
